 AED Fundraising Programme

We are currently raising funds for the purchase of at least one, but possibly two AED units for our Mobile Command Unit, and our SAR hall.  These units would be ready for use on a search or practice site in the event that one of our SAR members, or any visiting public go into cardiac arrest.  The same would hold for the unit stored at the SAR Hall.

Outdoor Safety Tips

Preparing For a Flood

If you live in an area that is prone to flooding we encourage you to ensure that you are ready. Please visit the "Get Prepared" website, offered by the Government of Canada, for information on preparing for floods, and other disasters. There is also the BC River Forecasting Centre, Advisories and Warnings webpage that has very useful information that you may be interested in if you live beside waterways that tend to flood.

Layer your clothing for the outdoors...

In our temperate climate the weather can change quickly, and the best way to be prepared is by always layering your clothing.

Good Footwear,

Starting with good footwear is essential. You should do some research to find out what footwear is ideal for the outdoor pursuit you are interested in.

Base layer,

The base layer helps move sweat and moister away from the skin, keeping you dryer and more comfortable. Use a natural or synthetic base layer, but avoid cotton or cotton blend base layers.

Mid layer,

The mid layer is the insulating layer. It should be made of a natural or synthetic fibre that holds its insulating properties even when wet. Once again avoid cotton.

Waterproof outer shell,

The outer shell protects you from the wind and the rain. Ideally the outer shell would be made of a waterproof breathable material. A waterproof breathable allows the moisture in the other layers to slowly dissipate, keeping you dryer and warmer.
